In the steel business, you have to prove yourself. Job after job. For decades. At B&B Welding, we’ve been doing just that for 53 years now. Our dedication to quality and precision has earned us the trust of industry giants like Northrup Grumman, where we’ve served as an approved vendor for the past 40 years. While national security prevents us from showcasing all our projects with Grumman, some examples include a massive 6,000 square foot mezzanine at Mail Stop G-13 and a galvanized new AHU  dunnage platform for Northrop Grumman’s East Building Radiating Lab, a crucial facility for testing new radar systems.

Building trust through quality:
Building lasting relationships is a cornerstone of our success at B&B Welding. As Dennis McCartney, B&B’s leader for decades, puts it: “Our steel fits together and our partners make money off our projects.” This commitment to collaboration is why North Point Builders has hired B&B Welding for so many projects over the years.

A case in point: The Middle River Recreational Activity Center
When Baltimore County wanted an experienced team to construct and assemble a new bow truss roof for their 16,000 sq. ft. recreational center, they looked to the North Point/B&B team. Every job has its challenges. For this one, the project involved intricate bow trusses with varying connection points. B&B purchased these trusses according to the specified, complex geometry from O’Donnell Metal Deck. The roof beam layout was designed to be transverse (perpendicular) to the bow trusses, ensuring proper load distribution and structural integrity. In addition, B&B fabricated end walls with a precise 62-foot radius. These pre-cut elements provided the masons with an accurate template for efficient wall construction. Lastly, B&B fabricated all the galvanized lintels for the project.

On schedule. Actually, ahead of schedule.
While the job site proved tight for crane access and the permitting process came slowly, B&B delivered the steel ahead of schedule. In total, we delivered 46 tons and 702 members of steel. LR Wilson, our long-time partner, was the erector.

Wells Fargo Signage

At B&B Welding, we’re proud to have left our mark on the City of Baltimore’s skyline. Our steel work can be found in the atriums of iconic buildings, the decorative steelwork atop skyscrapers, and in less heralded jobs like handrails and The Visitor’s Center. While the names of the buildings may change, our work remains.

In 2013, B&B Welding was asked to install the new BB&T signage — designed by Michael Walkley — at The Gallery on Calvert and Pratt streets. We jumped at the challenge, because this wasn’t your average sign — it was a 34-foot-long, triangular-shaped galvanized tubular structure that would extend over the south roofline.

To install this massive steel structure, our team had to think creatively. Piece by piece, we maneuvered steel members up elevators, carefully assembling the structure with precision onsite. Working with Jesse Keen of Keen Construction, we successfully positioned the sign to appear as if it was floating in midair above the roofline.

Fast forward to 2024, and Wells Fargo takes over the building, eager to make their own mark on Baltimore’s skyline. The new bank wanted their sign to extend 20 feet beyond the original. Once again, we found ourselves on the job. Our team carefully lifted the entire structure back over the roof, removed the BB&T sign, installed a new steel extension, and then repositioned the completed WELLS FARGO sign.

The result? A striking addition to Baltimore’s urban landscape that showcases both Wells Fargo’s presence and B&B Welding’s expertise.
